The making of Mirabelle Makery

From home-sewn party favours and gifts to calligraphy name tags and greeting cards, Mirabelle Makery creates beautifully shabby chic and feminine pieces to add some charm and whimsy to your party celebrations. Whether it’s a 30th birthday, posh tea party or just an excuse to get together, your special occasion deserves to shine.

Mirabelle Makery is owned and run by me, Charlotte, from my home in Wells, Somerset, and occasionally South West France when I’m lucky. I’ve always loved an excuse for a get-together, especially if it involves tea and cake, and what’s better than putting on a good old-fashioned spread for the ones you love.

I truly believe that home is where the heart is so making it a place that’s warm and welcoming is always important. With just a few small hand-crafted touches: a length of bunting here and a few hand-lettered name cards there, bland can be transformed into grand in an instant, and add a sense of occasion to your gathering.

My products are inspired by French and English vintage and I love nothing more than getting immersed in making one-off pieces that aren’t mass produced. As a stand against over-consumerism and throw-away party accessories, my aim is to make items that can be treasured and re-used, making every day beautiful whether you’re in celebration mode or not.

The paper I use is made less than a mile away from where I live at a paper mill which uses rare and traditional techniques. I source my materials locally where possible, with the occasional visit to my French home where I’ll scour the brocantes for vintage fabrics - my absolute favourite hobby!

I also run pointed pen modern calligraphy classes in the beautiful city of Wells in Somerset where I live. They’re a great way to meet new people and introduce them to the fun yet relaxing art form of hand lettering. You can see more by clicking here.
