Candlelit Elegance at Pennard House: A Black & White Wedding Story

Timeless wedding stationery and bespoke calligraphy inspired by heritage romance in the Somerset countryside at Pennard House.

Set in the sweeping countryside of Somerset, this refined celebration unfolded at Pennard House - a setting that feels both intimate and heritage. Surrounded by rolling fields and the quiet hush of the English countryside, the day embraced a sense of understated grandeur: a black and white palette softened by delicate country garden florals, and an atmosphere inspired by candlelit luxury and timeless elegance.

From the very first impression, the stationery set the tone.

The Invitation Suite

The invitation suite was designed to reflect the heritage of the manor house while introducing a modern sophistication. Hand-penned calligraphy met locally-made paper, creating a study in contrast - refined, confident, and quietly romantic.

Accompanying the suite was a bespoke pen and ink illustration of the venue, carefully rendered as a keepsake for guests. Architectural lines were softened with expressive detailing, capturing not just the façade of Pennard House, but its warmth and sense of history. For many couples, a venue illustration becomes more than paper - it becomes an heirloom, a visual memory of the place where vows were exchanged.

Tucked within the suite was also something deeply personal: a handwritten card from the bride to the groom. In a digital age, the permanence of ink on paper feels especially meaningful. Calligraphy carries emotion in its rhythm - each stroke a reflection of intention, anticipation, and love.

Ceremony Details

For the ceremony itself, I created a bespoke vow folder - elegant, minimal, and designed to frame the words that matter most. Bound in fine card with subtle detailing and tied with ribbon, it ensured that even the most practical elements of the day felt considered and cohesive.

The black and white palette carried seamlessly into the reception, elevated by candlelight and soft florals. A handwritten menu decorated the table, with its flowing script offering a tactile sense of care and artistry. Embossed table number signage added depth and dimension, the raised detailing catching the light in a beautifully subtle way.

Thoughtful Finishing Touches

One of the most cherished details was the seating design. Each guest’s place was marked by an individual ribbon tie, their names written in white calligraphy - a gentle contrast against dark accents. The ribbons were soft, romantic, and personal, transforming a practical arrangement into something quietly luxurious.

For couples planning their own celebration, this wedding is a reminder that elegance need not be elaborate. Through considered design, meaningful details, and beautiful craftsmanship, your stationery can do more than inform - it can set the tone, tell your story, and become part of your legacy.
