Both the table signs and cards are flat so stands or frames are recommended to prop up the signs, whereas the place cards can be presented flat within each place setting.

Are place cards necessary at a wedding?

Place cards at weddings help guide guests to their seats seamlessly and help avoid confusion and is usually paired with a large seating plan on entering the seated venue. If a more relaxed feel is sought after, then a seating plan alone can be used where guests are directed to tables, but they find their own seats. Alternatively, escort cards can be used at the entrance where guests names take their card with their name and a table number on which helps escort them to the right place.

Do you need surnames on place cards at weddings?

For more formal weddings, surnames can be used as it helps guests who have the same first name get to the right table. If surnames are indicated on the entrance seating plan then it’s not entirely necessary to include them on place cards too.

How do you display table numbers at a wedding?

Table number and name signs should be large enough to be read from a distance but shouldn’t distract from the rest of the table decorations - or obstruct guest’s views of each other. Incorporating table signs into a floral arrangement with a clip, or using a stand or picture frame helps to make the sign visible.
