Wedding Stationery Etiquette: The Graceful Way to Invite
Because the little details say so much…
When it comes to planning a wedding, etiquette might not be the first thing on your list—but when it comes to your wedding stationery, a few thoughtful traditions and timeless tips can go a long way in making your celebration feel polished, graceful, and unforgettable.
At Mirabelle Makery, etiquette isn’t about being stuffy—it’s about creating clarity, extending warmth, and letting your guests feel honoured to be part of your day.
Here’s my guide to wedding stationery etiquette—what to say, when to send, and how to make it feel beautifully you.
🕊️ Who Sends the Invitations?
Traditionally, the host(s) of the wedding are listed at the top of the invitation—often the bride’s parents, the couple together, or a combination of both families. But this is your story. Whether you're going modern, traditional, or somewhere in between, your wording should reflect the heart behind your day.
Example formats:
“Mr. and Mrs. James Carter request the honour of your presence…”
“Together with their families, Olivia and Daniel invite you…”
“Olivia Carter and Daniel Rivera joyfully invite you…”
⏰ When to Send What
Timing is everything—especially when you’re planning around busy schedules, travel, and RSVPs.
Save the Dates: 6–12 months before
Wedding Invitations: 6–8 weeks before (8–12 weeks for destination weddings)
RSVP Deadline: Around 4–5 weeks before your wedding
Thank You Cards: Within 3 months post-wedding
Tip: Mail earlier if your guests are travelling, or if you're planning during peak wedding season.
✍️ What to Include
An invitation suite typically includes:
The main invitation
Details card (venue info, dress code, website)
RSVP card + pre-addressed envelope
Optional: map, welcome note, weekend itinerary
Want to skip the extras and keep it streamlined? That’s totally fine, too. I’ll help you decide what’s best for your day and your guests.
💌 Addressing with Elegance
Take the time to hand-address or opt for calligraphy—it sets the tone for your whole celebration.
A few key etiquette notes:
Spell out full names and addresses (no abbreviations like "St." or "Dr.")
Include titles if appropriate (Mr., Mrs., Dr., etc.)
Always double-check spellings and plus ones
Need a custom guest list spreadsheet or help formatting your envelopes? I offer that too!
💡 Final Thought
Etiquette is here to serve your wedding—not the other way around. The most important thing is that your guests feel welcomed, informed, and excited to celebrate with you.
I’m here to guide you every step of the way—from your Save the Dates to your Thank You notes—with timeless charm and thoughtful design.
