A Winter Wedding Dream: The Inspiration Behind a White and Gold Celebration
As the chill of winter sets in and the festive season begins to sparkle, it feels like the perfect moment to share this enchanting white and gold winter wedding table and the bespoke wedding stationery suite that accompanied it - created last Christmas with love, artistry, and intention.
Inspired by an angelic theme, the look embodied an old-world charm filled with warmth, elegance, and festive spirit. The setting? The magical Bishop’s Palace in Wells, Somerset - a place steeped in over 800 years of history, complete with a swan-studded moat and breathtaking medieval architecture. It’s a venue that truly shines in the winter months, offering a luxurious backdrop for a celebration filled with romance.
This wintery look was dreamt up and styled together by the very talented Chloe from Kennedy Weddings and Events:
“I decided upon white and gold for my inspiration and this came from the ceiling, yes that’s right! It’s a beautiful cream colour gilded with a subtle gold. Each year I have picked out a festive theme and this soft white instantly made me think of angels.
An understated gold table runner, crystal glasses and gilded angels adorned the table which was softened by calligraphy in the form of hand torn scrolls by Mirabelle Makery. Whenever I show Charlotte a design board, she just seems to understand my vision so easily and will take every idea I have and take it to another level with her exquisite work.”
THE CALLIGRAPHY INVITATIONS AND WEDDING DAY DETAILS
The wedding stationery was thoughtfully designed to complement both the venue and the ethereal theme. A fully calligraphed invitation suite, featuring soft white handmade paper and sealed with a golden wax stamp, set the tone. Each detail was curated to bring cohesion and beauty, from the invitation and RSVP card to the finishing touches of the envelope.

For the feasting table, oversized calligraphy menus and delicate name scrolls served as individual place settings, designed as triumphant messages from the angels. Gold leaf details were woven throughout the suite, lending a luxurious and heavenly touch - even the calligraphy nib itself was dipped in gold!
The tablescape was a vision in warm whites and golden tones. Vintage glassware, candlelit arbours, ethereal dried flower arrangements, and angelic figurines came together to create a scene that felt both opulent and inviting. The centrepiece? A trio of tiered cakes adorned with frosty textures and delicate sugar flowers - a true showstopper.
For the calligraphy style, Camille was the natural choice. One of my signature hands, Camille is inspired by vintage French postcards - romantic, free-flowing, and timeless. Its old-world grace paired beautifully with the festive yet refined aesthetic of the day.
There’s something undeniably nostalgic about handwritten calligraphy during the holiday season - it brings to mind letters to Santa, wishes sent across snowy landscapes, and a sense of hope and promise. That feeling of magic and anticipation is what I love to capture in every piece I create.
