Although minimal and timeless in essence, these menus can be customised with some personalised details to tie in with the overall look and feel of your wedding. Think wax seals, tied ribbon, painted edges, shimmers of gold leaf and hand calligraphied names that can also serve as individual place cards.

These classic menu cards are deeply rooted in the local heritage but ready to begin their new life as they become part of your story. They’re printed locally onto paper made at a mill that sits on the River Axe, just a stone’s throw away from me.

Below I’ve answered some FAQs about how ordering these semi-custom printed wedding menu cards work - but if there’s anything I’ve missed please feel free to leave a comment at the end or get in touch.

When should I order my menus?

Once your wedding menu has been finalised with your caterer - after lots of tasting of course - and you have a rough idea of how many guests will be attending your wedding then it’s time to order your menus. I always advise planning ahead and getting in touch with me well before this (ideally when planning the rest of your stationery and invites) so that all the design details can be worked out and a date booked in the diary.

Printed menus can take up to 3 weeks to be printed then you’ll need to allow additional time for adding the extra embellishments as well as delivery which is usually another 2 weeks.

How many menus do I need?

These personalised wedding menus are intended to fit onto a guest’s table place so you’ll want one per guest - a unique treat - plus a few extras as your numbers aren’t likely to be completely finalised by the time you need to order. Rounding your menus up to the next ten and even the next ten is a good idea for those last-minute guests, one to give to your photographer and some unused keepsakes. So if you’re planned on having 82 guests (including yourself don’t forget) then 90 or even 100 menus is a safe number.

Menus start at a minimum of 30 then increase in multiples of 10. Re-ordering just a few spare later in the day would cost the 30 minimum again so it’s always best to order a handful of extras from the outset.

How can I personalise my menus?

These custom menus are ready and waiting for the words of your own menu that will be written in a classic font and a title in calligraphy with 4 calligraphy styles to choose from. The words you choose will the set the tone for your wedding and you’ll want the language to tie in with the rest of your stationery depending on how formal you want to be. From a casual ‘Let’s Eat’ to a formal ‘Feast’ and anything is between should be considered.

A central layout is timeless and elegant, but if you want to make it more modern then a left or right alignment will do the job.

What about wax seals?

The question on everyone’s lips and quite rightly so. Wax seals can absolutely be added to your menus and will really add a layer of luxury. Consider tying ribbon around them, or doubling them up a place cards by having names calligraphied onto them. I also offer inking around the edges - metallics work beautifully, or how about some glamorous gold leaf?

These embellishments will be added once your menus return from printing and should be factored in so that any layout adjustments can be made to fit on those extra flourishes.

WHAT PAPER IS USED for wedding menus?

You can rest assured that this sustainably-sourced paper is of extremely high quality and made to last for hundreds of years. This way, the celebration of your marriage will live on beyond the day itself so it can can be cherished by not only yourself but future generations.

The weight of it feels comforting to hold in your hands and you can choose from a smooth or textured paper in a soft off-white colour. When printed, the ink is clear and vibrant and takes additional elements like watercolour and calligraphy exceptionally well. I frequently use this paper for On the Day Stationery such as place cards and table numbers so that everything matches and works together beautifully.

What matching items are available?

This elegant menu is part of a semi-customisable set which includes Save the Dates, Invitations, Reply Cards, Details Cards and Maps that match. The paper can also be used to create matching On The Day Stationery such as calligraphy Place Cards, Tables Names and Vow Book Covers. For a stress-free and seamless look it’s advised to order everything at the same time and get a space saved in my diary.
